Qal'at al-Azraq ( Azrak Castle ) is located on the ancient trade
route leading to Saudi Arabia, Iraq & Syria
Pools of water - now long gone, gave the castle its name - which means Blue
in Arabic.
One of its most famous inhabitants was T.E. Lawrence - better known as "
Lawrence of Arabia"
I t was from Azrak that Lawrence and the army of Sheriff Hussein set out in
1918 for the assault on Damascus
